Code of Conduct
From xenowiki
< xeno >
xeno is a place for mature players with families, careers and responsibilities. We are one of the oldest guilds on Thunderlord. Our guild charter was signed on November 1, 2004. Many xeno members have been gaming together since 1997 and have remained close through several different games including Quake, Counter-Strike, and Call of Duty. xeno is a friendly place with a casual atmosphere, but we have accomplished great things and are moving forward in the World of Warcraft.
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to help members and potential members understand the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the guild. Once an individual accepts an invite to xeno, he or she agrees to abide by the code. All members should be familiar with the code in its entirety as well as other policy statements made on the forums. xeno reserves the right to amend or modify the code at any time.
< respect > We expect our members to show respect for xeno and each other.
Our members show respect for xeno by participating in raids when possible, fulfilling duties assigned by Officers and Raid Leaders, and refraining from activities that do not promote a positive guild image.
Our members show respect for each other by refraining from offensive, rude, crude, racist or sexist behavior toward other guild members and dealing with conflict in a mature and reasonable manner. The words "offensive, rude, crude, racist or sexist" mean different things to different people. We expect our members to use their own experiences and social skills to evaluate their words and other people's reactions to them; however, for simplicity, our members will keep guild and raid chat PG-13. In addition, we expect all of our members to be tolerant of others and comments others may make in guild chat, on the forums or in vent.
< communication > We expect our members to communicate effectively and appropriately.
Communication is a vital part of a successful community. xeno uses the website as a central tool for communicating with other members of the guild. Members are expected to create a profile on the forums and utilize the information about upcoming raids, necessary mods, and strategies for fighting various bosses. In addition, members are expected to use the xeno Ventrilo client and server for raids.
Appropriate communication requires that members treat others as they wish to be treated. Refrain from inflammatory comments on the website, in-game channels, and vent. Avoid language that will annoy or offend other members. Although we do not expect members to agree with each other at all times, we do require that efforts be made to maintain a friendly and familial atmosphere.
< participation > We expect our members to participate fully in xeno activities.
Although xeno is a casual raiding guild, meaning that we do not require our members to attend a certain percentage of raids in order to participate, we do not approach raids themselves in a casual manner. We expect our members to be committed to raids they attend. This commitment to raids you sign up for should not be taken lightheartedly. Barring real life complications, we expect our members to complete the raids they commit to attend.
Be prompt.
- Make every effort to be at or near the instance prior to the designated start time.
- If you are confirmed and are going to be late, contact an officer through the forums, e-mail, or instant messaging.
- If you are unconfirmed, be available to sub-in if needed.
Be prepared.
- Have your required gear, ammunition, reagents, and consumables ready prior to the start of the raid.
- Use your best judgment in making sure you bring enough of these materials to last throughout the entire raid.
- Do not expect another member to cover your group if you run out or are not prepared.
Be professional.
- Know your function in a raid and be ready and willing to perform it.
- Join the channels necessary for easy communication among members of your class (e.g., xenohealers).
- Listen to the Raid Leaders and Officers at all times.
- Refrain from going afk for extended periods or at frequent intervals. If you must step away from your keyboard, please let the Raid Leaders or Officers know.
- Respect other people's gear and do not increase the repair bills we all face after a raid.
< dedication > We expect our members to be dedicated to xeno.
Our members show dedication to xeno by signing up for and showing up to as many raids as they can. Real life obligations come first, but if a member commits to attending a raid, we expect that person to show up and put forth his or her best efforts to ensure the raid's success. If a scheduled raid is not full, we ask that our members, when possible, fill in where needed. The joint goal of all xeno members is the success and furtherance of the guild, and we expect our members to give that goal priority.
Dedication is rewarded in many ways. The most tangible of these is raid points. Raid point bonuses are awarded to members who show up at the instance on time and remain throughout the encounters. Members receive a 25 RP bonus for showing up to a raid early, a 25 RP bonus if the entire raid is ready to pull on time, and a 25 RP bonus for remaining until the end of a run (these bonuses apply to 25-man raids only). Attempts at boss encounters we have not yet successfully completed are also given a bonus. Remaining for at least 3 serious boss attempts (e.g., those that are not attempted by 5 people who share a death wish) earns a member another 25 RP bonus. Double point bosses (as designated by the officers) result in a 50 RP bonus for the 3 or more attempts.
< loot >
xeno uses a zero-sum raid point system. Anyone with more than 100 RP may bid, as there is no minimum required rank for bidding. The RP system and loot rules for unusual items are explained on the forums.
We expect our members to be honorable when bidding.
- xeno utilizes an open bid system for all bind on pickup items.
- Bidding should be done quickly and efficiently.
- Artificial inflation of bids is not tolerated. If a player retracts a bid, for any reason, he or she forfeits 10% of his or her highest bid. This penalty is assessed at Officer discretion.
- xeno members are expected to consider the good of the guild and not just their own desires when bidding.
- Members may not acquire two of the same set piece unless all others of that class in the raid already have the item.
- Making deals regarding gear is not condoned by xeno, and no deal will be enforced by the Officers.
< ranks >
Member ranks are awarded based on boss kill points and reflect a person's experience raiding with xeno. Ranks fluctuate based on xeno's progression through the game. After the guild has killed a boss four times, it is added to the calculations and ranks are adjusted. Boss kill points do not deteriorate, but the thresholds climb based on success with new encounters.
Members of higher ranks earn rewards for their dedication and service to xeno. One of these rewards is an RP discount when placing a winning bid.
- Royal Knight - 10% discount
- Knight - 5% discount
- Rifleman - 2.5% discount
- Footman - 1.25% discount
- Member
< consequences >
If a player fails to comply with this code, the consequences may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Verbal warning by an Officer or Officers.
- Loss of Rank benefits (bid discount) for one week.
- RP penalties. RP will be moved into escrow. This RP can be earned back over time by participating in raids.
- Removal from the guild.
No matter what actions are taken, a warning will always be given.
Issue Tracking System
Officers will make note of any actions taken in response to violations of individual members. All Officers will have access to this information, as will the member in question. Members can ask the Officers about violations they have on their record, but cannot access information on other guild members.
< enjoyment >
xeno is a guild where fun and success go hand in hand. Joking is encouraged and expected. Raids are the most enjoyable when everyone not only participates fully, but approaches the encounter with a pleasant attitude. If at any time you are unhappy being a part of the guild, you are encouraged to speak with any of the Officers via personal messages, e-mail, or instant messages.
