Raid Points
xeno uses a Raid Point system on 25-man instances. This is meant to distribute loot as openly and fairly as possible, without bias to anyone. This system has been active since our first Zul'Gurub learning run.
Quick Summary
- Everyone has 1000 Raid Points (RP) to spend as they wish.
- When an item drops you want, bid points on it—as many as you like.
- If you bid the highest, you get the item and spend your points.
- The points you spend get distributed to everyone else in the raid.
Detailed Summary
When any item drops of high enough value (purple or higher, with some exceptions) the item is offered up for auction to all members of the raid. The channel "xenoauction" will be used exclusively for bidding. Simply type "/join xenoauction" to participate. Joining the channel only needs to be done one time, and then you will automatically reconnect each time you login to the game. Once the master looter announces that an auction is open, members must type their bids into the channel to make them official. Everyone can see everyone else's bid. The minimum bid is always 100 RP. You must bid higher than the current highest bid in increments of 50 RP—Exception: If you do not have 50 more points than the highest bid, but you do have more points than the current high bid (e.g., the current bid is 250 RP and you only have 261.03 RP), you can bid all of your remaining RP. To do this, simply type "All" into the bidding channel. You may not bid more points than you currently possess. Once the bids are done, the raid leader will countdown to the end of the auction and announce a winner. If someone else bids before the countdown finishes, they will repeat the countdown from the beginning.
If no one bids, the item is disenchanted. So if you really want something, bid on it. If an item is going to be disenchanted, and you want it but do not have 100 RP to spend on it, you can ask the Officer running the auction to allow you to go negative. Allowing members to go into negative RP is at the Officer's discretion and is not a guarantee. However, the request is nearly always granted.
Once an item is purchased by a winning bid, the winner has the number of RP they bid (minus any [Guild Ranking System| rank discount] they may have earned) deducted from their balance. The points they spent receive a 20% tax and are then divided equally among all members of the raid (who will then see that their balance has been increased). This is called a zero-sum system. Raid Points are tracked here.
Zero-Sum
This just means the overall points in the system do not increase or decrease—everyone has 1000 points to spend. When you spend points, they go to other members. Overall the number of points never changes. There are 1000 points per member, on average. This way, when new members come in, they are not penalized by being way behind everyone else who has had time to accumulate a large amount of RP. However, new members will not immediately be brought up to par with established members the moment they arrive.
Escrow
When a new person joins a raid, they do not immediately receive 1000 points to spend. Their points are held in escrow (temporary holding) until they have completed several runs. Escrow is earned at the following pace:
- All new xeno members must attend 10 "recruit runs" before receiving any escrow. After this they receive 100 RP for each raid until they have earned their full 1000 RP.
This is to prevent people from joining and snagging the best loot available before we know if they are sticking around or not. People who run a few times with us are more likely to stick around. After a few runs, they have as much of a chance to get sweet loot as established members.
If points are placed back into escrow for any reason, they are earned back at the same pace as they were initially earned.
Officer's Discretion
The RP system is meant to be transparent and without bias. There is no special privilege and everyone can see how the system works. It is our belief that xeno members can pretty much manage themselves and keep the good of their fellow guild-members in mind without a lot of punishments or rewards. This is not a job or school or something—it's just a game; WoW-xeno is not a military order—just a bunch of friends who've met in RL or online; we all just come to play and leave the politics of our jobs or school lives behind for a while. So, we don't think we should need to direct things very much.
However, on very rare occasions Officers may decide to adjust the system for reasons that benefit the guild as a whole. For example, members may decide to pass up loot that is a clear upgrade because they want to save up points to outbid everyone else on some uber loot down the road. That's their choice. But to do so often is selfish, since improving your character would make you more effective for the guild in helping us to get to that uber loot in the first place. If so-called "point hoarding" becomes a problem, caps on points may be imposed.
On very rare occasions, Officers may decide to adjust the point balances of individuals up or down for the good of the guild as a whole. Also, if the system does not appear to be working fairly for any other reason, or is causing any other problems, we may adjust the system as appropriate.
RP Bonuses (25 Man Content)
- The Early Bird bonus: to receive the 25 point Early Bird bonus, you will need to be within the raid zone (or at the summoning stone) and at your keyboard ten (10) minutes before raid start time (so, that would be 7:20 PM ST on most nights).
- Group On-time bonus: An additional bonus of 25 points will be given to everyone in the raid at raid start time (e.g., 7:30) if everyone is in zone and ready to pull. If even one person is not ready to pull at raid start time, this additional bonus will not be distributed. Exception to the rule: Officer approved latenesses will not count against the group bonus. Officer approved latenesses are only those that were confirmed with a player note stating that the player would be late. As long as all other players are in zone and ready to pull at raid start time, the bonus will be distributed. Again, these approved lates have to be confirmed with a comment stating that the player will be late.
- Half-time bonus: Halfway through the raid we will have an official break. Players who wish to leave the raid before 11:00 PM ST must leave during the break and a replacement will be brought in at that point.
- All players who commit to stay until the end of the raid (e.g., 11:00 PM ST on most raid nights) at the time of the break will earn an additional 25 point Half-time bonus.
- All players on the Wait List at the time of the break will also earn a 25 point RP bonus. In order to earn this "bonus, you need to be available to sub into the raid immediately if we need you. We will do whispers to ensure players on the WL are still available (Note: you will not be considered available if you are in an instance at the time of the check).
- If at any point (up until the end of the raid) we need you to sub, we will whisper you. Assuming you come to the raid, you will keep your bonus. If we request you to attend, and you do not come, you will forfeit your bonus. If we do not need you, you will automatically keep your bonus.
- Players who commit to stay until the end of the raid (or those that joined the raid at the time of the break or later) are expected to stay until 11. If one of these players leaves early, he or she will:
- lose any bonuses earned for the evening.
- Incur a penalty of an additional 25 RP.
10-mans—Exceptions to the Rule
At the speed we obtain loot from 10 man raids, these items will be distributed without using RP. All 10 man raid loot (even set pieces) will be rolled on by those who need it. As always, please show consideration for fellow members (who may have a much greater need for certain items to fulfill their role than you might).
When rolling, it is important to note that Mains and on spec rolls get priority over alts and off spec rolls. Also, Officers have the final call on who receives an item and who is eligible to roll, if there are any disagreements.
